Cricket World Cup chief Steve Elworthy to join The Hundred team in 2020

Steve Elworthy, the Managing Director of the Cricket World Cup, will next year join the organising team for the Hundred, the ECB’s new men’s and women’s competition that starts next summer.

Former South Africa bowler Elworthy has vast experience organising major cricket tournaments, and has worked at the ECB – and latterly ICC – since 2010.

Before that, the 54-year-old worked for Cricket South Africa where he ran the inaugural World T20 in 2007.

He also managed the 2009 edition of that tournament, as well as the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy and 2017 Women’s World Cup.

As such, his involvement represents something of a coup for The Hundred.

He will move across when his current contract with the ICC ends, reporting to Tom Harrison, as a "Director of Special Projects” – one of which is The Hundred.

In his role on the tournament – which is essentially as Tournament Director – he will work alongside The Hundred’s Managing Director Sanjay Patel on delivering the operational side of the event.
