England have become the first men’s side to win the World Cup after beating New Zealand in an epic final.
With the tournament taking place on home soil and the Lord’s final being made available on free-to-air television, the interest in cricket is increasing.
With that, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) began to consider making arrangements to hold an open bus parade around London with the trophy should Eoin Morgan’s side win.
The ECB held talks with the Greater London Authority about staging an event such as a parade or a street party to celebrate the success.
However the governing body has decided against hosting such an occasion given the limited time between Sunday’s final and the start of The Ashes series.
England begin their preparation for the five-test series with a four-day warmup game against Ireland on Wednesday 24 July.
England held an open bus parade following their famous victory in the 2005 Ashes, but there will be no repeat of that celebration.
