Cricket T20IW: Scotland debut for East Kilbride Cricket Club star as teenager steps up to senior side in Holland

East Kilbride Cricket Club star Nayma Sheikh made her senior debut for the Scotland national team this week after receiving a late call-up to the squad for their T20IW Tri-Series matches in Holland.

The 17-year-old and Emma Walsingham were both drafted in to replace Katherine Fraser and Olivia Bell, who have been ruled out through injury.

And on Monday, Nayma won her first cap when she featured in the first game of the summer tour against Thailand.

Scotland lost to Thailand by eight wickets but it will be a day she will never forget, after featuring for the team and contributing five runs in the clash before Scotland were beaten in Utrecht.

A match against the host nation follows today at 1pm and Scotland face Thailand again on Thursday, and the Dutch for a final time on Saturday.

Nayma was presented with her first cap in camp by team-mate Abtaha Maqsood.

It’s the latest step in the teenager’s development after she made history with the Women’s Under-19 T20 team at the World Cup in South Africa in February.

She was part of the first Scotland team in history to compete at a Cricket World Cup and she claimed the prized wicket of Indian star Shafali Verma.
