Cricket fraternity hails Indian football team for record-extending SAFF Championship win

The Indian men's football team defeated Kuwait in a nail-biting penalty shootout to win the SAFF Championship for the ninth time, as the country's cricket fraternity joined the football fans in congratulating the team.

After extra time, the teams remained locked at 1-1, which sent the game to penalties.

Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu then saved a crucial penalty kick to help his team edge out Kuwait 5-4.

Here's how the congratulations poured in from the cricket fraternity:

The win made India's head coach, Igor Stimac, who couldn't be on the sidelines because of a two-match suspension, the first foreign head coach of the team to secure consecutive SAFF Championship titles.

Furthermore, this remarkable achievement marked the first occasion where India triumphed over two West Asian nations consecutively, as they defeated Lebanon in the semifinals and Kuwait in the final.
