A cricket fan who racially abused England star Jofra Archer during the tour to New Zealand has been banned from attending matches in the country for two years.
The incident occurred on the final day of the First Test between England and the Black Caps at Mount Maunganui in November, which the hosts won by an innings and 65 runs.
An official complaint was lodged with the police, with a 28-year-old man admitting responsibility and receiving a verbal warning for using insulting language.
However, New Zealand Cricket have now implemented their own punishment, barring the fan in question from attending any international or domestic fixtures until 2022.
A spokesman for the governing body said: “We’d like to again extend our apologies to Jofra and the England team management for such an unsavoury incident and reiterate once more that this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable.”
Archer is currently on England’s tour of South Africa and looking to prove his fitness ahead of the Third Test in Port Elizabeth, which starts on Thursday, having missed the win at Newlands with an elbow problem.
