KOLKATA: A cricket betting racket was busted at a premium apartment complex in Rajarhat in Wetst Bengal capital Kolkata on Monday evening.
Bidhannagar Police arrested 13 men and seized 27 cellphones and four laptops from them which they were using for betting during the ongoing IPL games from a rented apartment at Vedic Village.
Police said while the majority of the arrested men were residents of Bihar and Jharkhand, who were managing the bets while taking the flat on rent, some other men from Howrah, Kolkata and Barrackpore – who had gathered at the flat to place bets – were also arrested.
They were charged with IPC section dealing with cheating and sections under West Bengal Gambling and Prize Competition Act.
“The arrested men have confessed that monetary transactions were made through Paytm wallet and other online accounts,” said an officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
