Cricket Australia calm concerns after shooting near Manuka oval ahead of T20

Cricket Australia has sought to calm public concerns about a shooting incident near Manuka Oval as preparations begin for Tuesday night's international T20 fixture at the venue.

About 8.10am, a man shot at a woman sitting in the driver's seat of a white sedan in a car park off Dominion Circuit, several blocks from the cricket venue.

It has been described by police as a "random incident".

The injured woman drove the short distance to Manuka Oval and flagged down security guards, who were patrolling the venue ahead of the game.

Paramedics treated the woman inside the gates of the oval and took her to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Her assailant was still on the run.

A press conference with the Australian team scheduled for 10am went ahead at the team's Canberra hotel, and a brief statement was issued to the international media concerning the shooting incident.

Australia will play Pakistan at Manuka Oval in one of the biggest T20 matches at the ground. A win for the Australians will mark the first time they have gone seven matches without a loss since 2010.

A spokesman for Cricket Australia said the incident would have no effect on the upcoming game and they had been assured by police that there was no correlation between the violent incident and the upcoming match.

"Our understanding is that the car which was shot will be lifted up and taken away from there [Manuka Oval] shortly," the spokesman said.

The car has since been removed from the ground.

More than 10,000 tickets have been sold for the game.
