Crews treat four-year-old boy after being called to people trapped in house fire

Firefighters from Stapleford treated a four-year-old boy after being called to reports of people trapped in a house fire.

It was a busy night for Stapleford fire station as it was just one of three incidents crews attended on Saturday night (May 18).

At around midnight, they were called to Kirk Hallam after receiving reports that a house was alight with people "trapped inside".

Upon arrival the firefighters discovered a chip pan which had been on fire but was out on arrival, and a four-year-old child received oxygen therapy for injuries not thought to be serious.

Before the incident in Kirk Hallam, the team was called to a residential street in Stapleford after a young boy had locked himself in a bathroom while the bath tub was filling with water.

A Stapleford Fire Station spokesperson said: "We were called to Stapleford to gain entry to a bathroom where a young boy had locked the door, with the bath filling up. Our crew manager, Pete Hopkins, quickly used a Halligan tool to force the door open.

"Everyone escaped unharmed, apart from a door frame, which will need replacing."

Shortly after freeing the young boy, the crew attended a fire in a derelict building in Stanton by Dale in the south east of Derbyshire.

A spokesperson added: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using hose reel jets entered the building and extinguished the blaze.

"Outside firefighter Gavin Wilson used two positive pressure ventilation fans to make the conditions better for the crews inside and to force smoke out of the building."
