Crews tackle vehicle and building fires at industrial estate in Sunderland

Crews were dispatched to tackle two fires at an industrial estate in Sunderland.

Three fire engines from the city were dispatched to the Pallion Industrial Estate, just off European Way, after receiving reports of a van and derelict building on fire at 6.19pm on Monday.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the crews were at the scene but that there were no reports of any injuries and it was not being treated as serious.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was just a derelict building on the industrial estate so it is nothing too serious and no injuries have been reported."

The fires were quickly extinguished and firefighters left the scene after about 40 minutes.

The incident comes less than a week after a fire at Pallion Retail Park on New Year's Day, not far from the industrial estate.

Crews arrived to find several loads of rubbish ablaze inside a derelict building.
