Crews race to rescue kayakers in sinking inflatable out at sea in East Lothian

Rescuers raced to save desperate kayakers who were left stranded after their inflatable boat began to sink near North Berwick.

The incident happened on Friday (29 May) at around 11:50am after three people ventured out to sea on an inflatable kayak.

As the boat began to sink, two people became stranded on Craigleith Island in East Lothian before lifeboat crews raced to their aid. The third kayaker was also located and brought to shore.

None of the kayakers were injured in the frightening incident and crews said they were "well prepared", with "personal flotation devices and had a means of calling for help".

North Berwick RNLI Lifeboat said: "The two kayakers on the inflatable managed to get to safety on Craigleith Island whilst another stood by and were quickly located by the crew.
