Crewe crane collapse: Three people trapped after construction site incident

Two people are trapped after a crane collapsed at a construction site in Crewe, with a third man, believed to be the driver, airlifted to hospital.

The incident happened on the site where new homes were being built.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: "Police are currently dealing with an incident in Dunwoody Way in Crewe.

"A crane has collapsed, trapping three people underneath. Emergency services are working at the scene."

Cheshire Fire service confirmed one person, a man believed to be the crane driver, was taken to hospital by air ambulance. His condition is not yet known.

Two more people remain trapped at the scene, police said.

Two fire engines and the service's major incident unit are assisting police and paramedics.

The fire service was alerted to the incident shortly after 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Cheshire Police refused to speculate on the cause of the crash, and said the moments immediately before the accident would form part of any future investigation.
