Crewe boss' explosive response to Cardiff City's 'disgusting' offer for Perry Ng

Crewe Alexandra boss Dave Artell says he's ready to fight to keep hold of captain Perry Ng after revealing the club have rejected a 'disgusting' offer from Cardiff City.

Bluebirds boss Neil Harris has confirmed that Ng is a player who the club have been looking at in this window, with City reportedly stepping up their interest in the full-back with an 'undisclosed bid'.

That bid has seemingly been rejected by Alex, with Artell stinging in his criticism of the offer, revealing it to be a long way off their valuation of the player.

Ng currently has six months left to run on his current deal at Gresty Road, and Artell admits there is the possibility that he may look to run down his contract before moving on to a higher level in the summer.

But he insists there is currently no pressure on the League One outfit to cash in on one of their star players, and has hit out at the agent he says has helped fuel Cardiff's interest.

"I think we have responded (to the offer), but it didn't warrant a response, it was disgusting," said Artell. "It came about through an agent who is trying to force a deal. He's not working for us because we don't pay agents. He's trying to get a deal going, but he's miles away - between here and Mars to be honest.

"Perry understands that. He's been a terrific leader and a terrific captain. He's got another four months if he runs down his contract, but if he doesn't we have him for another few years.

"I've spoken to his agent and he was fuming about how the 'deal' came about."

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge financial impact on clubs lower down the footballing pyramid, but Artell insists that a combination of careful planning and the near £400,000 Premier League deal has helped ease financial concerns.

"It doesn't surprise me (the interest in Ng) as we've got good players at this club, and not just Perry," Artell added.

"What I would say is that we don't need to sell. We're in a great financial position, the best we've been in for a number of years."
