Crew of firemen trapped by flames while battling huge gorse fire in Donegal

A crew of fireman battling a huge gorse fire in Donegal have become surrounded by flames.

The crew are battling to save a house in the Belcruit area of west Donegal when they became trapped by flames.

It is understood that they are not in immediate danger as the area around them has been completely doused.

They are now awaiting helicopters to put out the fires around them so they can exit the area and secure the house.

Speaking to Donegal Daily, one fireman said: "This is unreal stuff. I have battled a lot of gorse fires over the years but this is amongst the most dangerous.

Fire services battling massive gorse fire in Donegal with fears flames could spread to nearby homes  

"Everything is bone dry and there is a strong wind so these are perfect conditions for the fires to spread rapidly."

Dozens of locals are also supporting the fire services as entire communities battle to put out the fires.
