Cregagh Glen closed to the public due to storm damage

The Cregagh Glen has been closed off to the public after a bridge was damaged during a storm.

Belfast City Council is currently working to repair a bridge that was damaged along the popular heritage and walking trail as it poses a health and safety risk to the public.

Lisnasharragh Green Party councillor Brian Smyth said: "A local resident got in touch with myself and sent videos of damage to one of the bridges at Cregagh Glen from the recent adverse weather.

"I contacted council officers, who have stated the bridge may need replaced due to structural damage. I've also asked that an assessment of the walking route in Cregagh Glen is undertaken, to see if any further damage has happened.

"I know how many local residents value the area, so I'll be hoping that the work is done as soon as possible, but that safety is paramount and therefore it may be a few weeks before everything is completed."

The council has said that it will keep people updated on the bridge repairs via social media when it reopens.

A Belfast City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of damage caused to a bridge in Cregagh Glen. The bridge is currently closed off to the public as it poses a health and safety risk. We are working with our contractor to repair the damage and will update people via our social media channels when it reopens.”
