Creetown Youth Club celebrates £1,000 cash boost

Creetown Youth Club is celebrating a £1,000 cash bonanza to help it fund activities for young people in the village.

The go-ahead group was awarded the cash after making an application to Tesco’s community grants scheme.

And the application so impressed the shortlisting panel that they agreed to donate £1,000.

It’s the second piece of good news for the club – the youth club hall has just been refurbished with the help of local tradesmen.

Jayne Herron, shift leader at Tesco Kirkcudbright, encouraged Creetown Youth Club to submit its bid.

She said: “The volunteers have made such a great change to the hall – it’s amazing.

“It’s a great club which does a great job – there’s not very much around here for the kids to do otherwise.

“It’s something that keeps them occupied and out of mischief.”

Club volunteer Eddie McGaw thanked Tesco for the donation.

An open night at the hall is planned once Covid restrictions ease further, he said.

The community grants scheme, run with charity partner Groundwork, supports local groups contributing to children’s health and well being.
