Creetown Silver Band benefits from £3,000 charity donation

Creetown Silver Band is trumpeting a cash windfall of almost £3,000
thanks to big-hearted Co-op members.

Customers at the Newton Stewart store accumulated the sum through donations over the past 12 months.

The total amounted to a massive £2987.92 – and the money is already being put to good use.

Eight members of the band came to Newton Stewart Co-op last Wednesday evening to be presented with the cheque under the Coop’s Local Community Fund – Celebrations Payout.

Part of the sum has already been spent to purchase seating and storage with the remaining amount going towards new equipment for the band’s forthcoming recruitment drive.

Co-op member pioneer for Wigtown and Newton Stewart, William Dodds, said: “We hope the band will return very soon to pitch up near the store and give us some of their favourite festive tunes.”

In a statement on social media, Creetown Silver Band said: “We’re very grateful to the Coop for the fantastic boost to our funds.

“Thanks to all the customers who chose to support us.”

The good news comes as the band looks forward to its Christmas concert in the Quarrymen’s Arts Centre on December 16 at 7pm.

Capacity in limited to 80 and tickets, which are selling fast, can be obtained via the Creetown Silver Band Facebook page.
