Creetown sculptures set to form stunning new tourist attraction

A series of stunning sculptures is set to form a new tourist attraction in Creetown.

The pieces by Ronald Rae have been carved out of granite and will be placed in the town centre and at the Whiskey Bonded warehouse.

Thanks to the generosity of Raymond and Martin Armstrong, the work includes his latest pairing of stones – Gethsemane 2020 and a Child Pieta – as well as ten pieces from his exhibition at the Falkirk Wheel.

Ronald Rae started carving granite aged 15 and was so enthralled by the spark and physicality of the stone that he has made finding the person or animal within the stone his life’s pursuit.

The works are all hand carved which represents an immense labour due to the obdurate strength of granite.

Ronald, who is now 73, believes that the setting of broken concrete and nature will offset the works perfectly, highlighting the connected themes of humanity, the animal kingdom and spirituality.

Creetown Community and Creetown Initiative are fully supportive and the project will cement the reputation of the town and of the region in relation to its forward vision on sculpture and public art.

The project will be open to the public during daylight hours and a formal launch will be announced in due
course.
