Creetown Gala Day supporters enjoy another successful event - despite the weather

Creetown Gala Day supporters smiled in the face of adversity on Saturday to pull off another successful event – despite the weather.

It looked as though the celebration would escape the thundery showers but a mid-afternoon deluge had spectators running for cover.

Gala secretary Nicola McCartan said: “We had a horrendous torrential downpour around 2,30 pm.

“I have never seen rain like it. The bouncy castle was cancelled on health and safety grounds but we still had an ice-cream van come down from Kilmarnock!

“And although not as many folk turned up as in previous years we had a good turnout. Considering the weather we did really well.”

Highlight of the day was the crowning of gala queen Lucy Donnelly and king Tyler Ross by Mrs Janette Lupton.

The royal party headed the fancy dress and float parade to the park for an afternoon of entertainment featuring international singing star Jesse Garron and children’s entertainer the Road Runner.

Nicola added a word of warning for next year.

“This will be the last gala if more people don’t come forward,” she said.
