Creepy video footage from inside the abandoned Merseyside Centre for the Deaf

Eerie video footage explores the crumbling rooms of the old, abandoned Merseyside School for the Deaf on Princes Avenue.

The Merseyside Centre for the Deaf, formerly the Adult Deaf and Dumb Institute, is an Grade II listed building built in 1887.

Initially built as a chapel for the Merseyside deaf community, images show just how far from grace it has fallen.

In 2018 it was named by the Victorian Society as one of the 10 heritage buildings most in need of being saved from becoming derelict as the "once grand" Gothic structure was now in a "terrible state".

Some 20 years after it closed in 1986, it was run as a successful community centre but rising costs forced them out in 2007.

Urban explorer, Jake Parr, who took the footage said: “All of the building is accessible. Structurally it’s in good condition and the architecture is beautiful.

“It’s like walking back in time.

“The old carpenters, they used to have pride in their work.

“Now they build new houses in a few weeks.

“If the Lottery [heritage fund] pulled their finger out it would be beautiful.

“It’s sad. If we don’t look after these buildings they will be lost forever.”
