'Creepy’ Uber Eats driver probed after ‘pestering’ 16-year-old Scots teen and ‘asking for a relationship’

Uber Eats have launched an investigation after a 16-year-old girl in South Lanarkshire was allegedly ‘pestered’ by a 'creepy' delivery driver.

Amylee Gemmell was left feeling ‘scared’ after using the app to order a meal from a fast-food restaurant in Hamilton on June 16.

When her food arrived, the teenager claims the delivery driver ‘stared and winked’ at her after handing it over before she quickly closed the door.

Amylee has supplied a screen shot of the messages allegedly from the driver to Uber Eats (Supplied)

She then noticed a missed call on her mobile phone from an unsaved number and rang it back only to discover that it was allegedly the same man.

Amylee claims he asked her if she wanted to be ‘in a relationship with him’ and if he could ‘ask her questions’.

The teenager told her mum and reported the incident to Uber Eats who have confirmed they are now investigating.

The frightened teen said: “I had just come home from work and ordered food on the app.

“The driver was messaging me on the Uber Eats app, telling me that he was on his way and then that he had arrived.

“They don’t normally message unless they can’t find your house. He came to the door and handed over my food before standing back a bit and just staring at me.

“He asked if I was okay and I said yeah but then he winked at me so I just closed the door.

“I went upstairs and I had a missed call from a number I didn’t know so I called it back and it was him.

“At first he asked if my food was okay and if the order was correct, which it was, but then he said ‘can I ask you a question?’

“He asked if he could have a relationship with me over the phone. I just ended the call.

“I went on the app to report him and there were messages coming through saying ‘it was so nice to see you’ and ‘can I ask you questions?.”

Amylee contacted Uber Eats to complain and was refunded for her order.

But she continues to have concerns over the driver’s alleged behaviour.

She said: “I was really scared and I didn’t really know what to do. I was worried because he obviously knew where I lived and he had my contact details as well.

“I just didn’t know what was going to happen.

"I am concerned that it could happen to someone else. The Uber Eats app says it has an age limit of 12+ so it could happen to a girl that’s younger than me.”

An Uber Eats spokesman said: "What has been described is completely unacceptable.

“We are currently investigating the incident, and if found to be accurate, in these situations we would remove a courier's access to the app."
