Creepy hooded man frightening women as they walk their dogs

Women have reported a creepy hooded man who frightens them as they walk their dogs at all hours of the day.

A number of people in Upholland have mentioned being spooked by the man who lurks in the road while they are out.

Police have confirmed they are looking into the reports, a number of which happened around Ormskirk Road, and are taking them seriously but have urged neighbours not to "exaggerate" the incidents.

Lancashire Police did say that patrols in the area had been increased to ease local fears.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: "We received a small number of calls earlier this month reporting a man acting suspiciously in the Ormskirk Road area of Upholland.

"We understand that people could be alarmed by such incidents and we would like to reassure people that we take all such reports seriously and they have been looked into.

"Patrols in the area were increased at the time and we have received no subsequent reports.

"Officers have been, and will continue to be, out and about in the area, and people are reminded to be vigilant at all times.

"As is sometimes the case when people start to talk about such incidents, stories are confused and added to as they are passed on, without any malicious intent, and after the story has been retold a few times it can become exaggerated.

"It is really important that people report first hand instances of suspicious behaviour and to try and avoid repeating gossip and third hand information.

"People need to be wary of misinformation which is often provided by channels other than Police.
