Creepy Fife prowler caught on camera trying car and door handles as cops warn residents to lock up safely

A creepy prowler who has been stalking the streets of a Fife town has been caught on film.

The hooded man was spotted trying car and house door handles in Cowdenbeath at around 5.30pm on Monday January 18.

There have been reports of other attempts to access property in the surrounding area in recent days, however it is unclear whether the same person is responsible.

The grainy footage was filmed on a phone camera in the Thistle Street and Randolph Crescent areas of the town.

The man can be seen walking up the street before stopping and trying the door of a Highway Maintenance van.

The cameraman honks his horn to frighten the man off and he is seen walking away.

The police were notified and the film was uploaded to the Fife Jammers Facebook page..

The message posted with it said: “Man trying the doors of houses and cars along the streets who is clearly under the influence. Said he was looking for ‘Carhart Street’.

“Moved away from street after I approached him but then came back 5 minutes later and tried houses again.

“Police phoned but just want to warn everyone to keep their doors locked.”

Local residents took to social media to praise the cameraman.

One wrote: “Good post. We need more people recording on their phones so these scum can be tracked.”

While another said: “Makes you wonder what exactly the police are doing? Maybe practicing for the enquiry?”

And when another Facebook user criticised the man for not confronting the prowler, someone else wrote: “Would you go out and risk getting jagged with a dirty needle or even a blade, person viewing may not have been only person in house and somebody else on phone to law, or even on hold to the law while taking the video...just saying.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
