Creeped out Edinburgh mum finds would-be thieves standing in her garden

Police Scotland are investigating after another attempted break-in was reported in Clermiston as a woman says she saw two shadowy figures clad in black bolting from her back garden.

The incident happened on Monday October 18 shortly after 10:30pm at night on Clermiston Grove.

The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that she had gone to the back door as her dog was acting agitated when watching TV in bed.

But when she got the back door in the kitchen to let the dog out, she heard a noise and then saw two dark shapes sprint away from the door.

She said that she did not get a good good look at the culprits faces but that she noticed a couple of chairs upturned in the back garden.

She adds that she was home alone at the time and that the experience has hit her hard.

On the ordeal, she said: “It has me quite shaken.

“I literally never saw any faces as I was in bed with the dog who seemed to be a bit agitated. I thought he needed out but when I went into the kitchen I heard a noise and then two shapes bolting away from the back door.

"They were in dark clothing with their hoods up and I noticed a couple of chairs upturned in the garden which gave me a right fright as on my own at the time."

Edinburgh Live had reported yesterday that another attempted break-in had taken place on Drumbrae Drive on October 14.

A resident of the property said that they had been awoken by their dog barking before the husband went into the spare bedroom to have a look out of the window.

It is believed that the husband then spotted a man who was stood in the back garden with a brick in his hands, which the family believe he was going to use to gain entry to the property as he smashed the back door handle completely off.

The husband is then understood to have confronted the man by opening the back door but the man appeared to be inebriated and said that he was looking for a friends house.

When the culprit was confronted about the door handle he is said to have taken off.

Those within the household then called 101 where police are understood to have responded to the scene of the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said of the latest incident: "Police received a report of an attempted housebreaking at a property in Clermiston Grove, Edinburgh, which occurred around 10.30pm on Monday, 18 October 2021.

"Enquiries are continuing."
