Creditors claim Christian Laettner owes $14 million, want bankruptcy

Former Duke star Christian Laettner allegedly owes $14.05 million in unpaid debts, according to a court filing made Tuesday by five creditors.

The creditors are trying to force Laettner into bankruptcy and want his financial affairs to be supervised by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Middle District of North Carolina in Durham, N.C., according to the court documents.

Laettner's attorney, Richard M. Hutson, was served with the legal documents Friday. William P. Miller has been appointed the trustee for the bankruptcy case.

Hutson, who is based in Durham, did not respond to repeated attempts to reach him for comment.

Laettner, who made the famous game-winning shot against Kentucky in the 1992 NCAA Tournament East Region finals, has 21 days to respond to the filing.

It's not clear from the court documents why Laettner owes the creditors.
