Credit card fraudsters have stolen thousands of pounds during a scam at an Edinburgh shop.
Maddie & Marks, a children's shoe shop, was targeted by the fraudsters on Monday.
They pretended to use the card maching to enter their PIN, but were actually using it to order refunds.
The scam bears a similarity to a spate of frauds which took place in Bristol recently. Business owners now fear a gang is travelling the country carrying out the same fake refunds.
Imogen Douglas, director at Maddie & Marks, described the episode in a Facebook post.
She said: "So today at work we were completely done over by three very clever fraudsters to the tune of £6K.
"It was total credit card fraud at its worst but done in a way I didn't even think was possible.
"They purchased items and then pretended to punch in their PIN numbers to our card machine when actually they were refunding £2000 three times to their own card."
She urged any small retailers to be on the lookout for for three people, described as two black men and a mixed race woman.
Imogen added: "She was carrying a Sixt car rental key so probably going around the country fooling retailers like us."
