Creators of Tiger King and Fyre have a new documentary on Netflix this week

With lockdown set to continue until April 5 and beyond, the memories of Tiger King and the bitter feud between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin probably seem like an eternity ago.,

Well, director Chris Smith is back and for fans of documentaries, he has a particular talent for documenting scandals and the personalities who lead them.

Prior to his work as an executive producer on on Tiger King, Smith also directed Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened which depicted the inner workings of the doomed festival and how Billy McFarland defrauded investors of $27.4 million by marketing and selling tickets to the festival and other events.

Both of those documentaries became pop-culture phenomenons and in his new feature, Operation Varsity Blues, Smith will be delving into the shocking 2019 college admissions scandal.

In terms of an official synopsis, Netflix state that the documentary will provide: "An examination that goes beyond the celebrity-driven headlines and dives into the methods used by Rick Singer, the man at the centre of the shocking 2019 college admissions scandal, to persuade his wealthy clients to cheat an educational system already designed to benefit the privileged.

"Using an innovative combination of interviews and narrative recreations of the FBI’s wiretapped conversations between Singer and his clients, Operation Varsity Blues offers a rare glimpse into the enigmatic figure behind a scheme that exposed the lengths wealthy families would go to for admission into elite colleges and angered a nation already grappling with the effects of widespread inequality.

The film will also use real conversations that are recreated from FBI wiretaps.

Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal is available to watch on Netflix from March 17.
