Creative Hamilton schoolgirl is back baking during latest lockdown

A talented Hamilton schoolgirl has been rising to the challenge of lockdown by making some creative cakes.

Back in the summer, we reported that Carly McAulay was so gutted to be missing out on her P7 Townhill Primary prom, residential trip to Locherbie Manor and leavers’ assembly, that she turned to baking.

The youngster decided to make different sweet treats in the kitchen and researched everything she could on YouTube.

And she has continued to amaze her family with her cake making.

Carly’s mum, Caroline, explained: “Through lockdown she researched it all herself watching YouTube videos and had her own ideas.

“What’s amazing is I don’t bake at all, so she didn’t have anybody in the house to help her, although I helped with putting it in and out the oven.”

After Carly and the family missed out on a trip to Disneyland Paris, she decided that she would cheer up her brother, Luke, by baking him a cake for his 13th birthday. That was Carly’s first creation but she vowed not to stop there and has since created special cakes for all of her family.

The 12-year-old Hamilton Grammar School pupil made a Rangers FC themed cake for her dad, a chocolate one for herself, a pink sweet treats one for her mum, and a Minions cake for her little brother.
