Crazed man bit police officers and attacked Coatbridge pub staff member

A CRAZED yob whose catalogue of disgraceful offences included biting police officers, attacking a member of staff at a Coatbridge pub and spitting blood on others failed to appear in court for sentencing.

David McMullen’s despicable day on June 20 began with him causing serious disruption at Merlin’s pub on Main Street.

He assaulted a male employee by “repeatedly punching him on the head and seizing hold of his clothing, causing him to fall to the ground”.

The disgusting 29-year-old then spat blood onto the head of another male staff member before police arrived at the scene.

Glasgow man McMullen was placed under arrest but then, on Main Street, he bit two male cops on their bodies and spat blood at police officers.

He was then taken to Monklands Hospital for treatment – but his callous conduct didn’t end there.

McMullen behaved in a threatening and abusive manner by “fighting with members of the public”, spitting at people, repeatedly shouting and swearing and “uttering threatening, abusive and homophobic remarks”.

He was eventually taken into custody and was due to be sentenced at Airdrie Sheriff Court last month.

But McMullen failed to appear as scheduled, with Sheriff Derek O’Carroll adjourning matters until October 23 for criminal justice social work reports – and to assess McMullen’s suitability for a restriction of liberty order.
