Crawley begin "global search" for new manager after controversial exit of John Yems

Crawley Town say they are prepared to undertake a "global search" as they look to replace manager John Yems.

It was confirmed on Friday that the 62-year-old has left the League Two side following an investigation into claims that he allegedly used discriminatory language and behaviour against his own players.

Yems had been suspended indefinitely last month by the club following "serious and credible" accusations about his behaviour from a number of playing staff. In addition, the FA have said that they are also investigating the allegations against Yems. On Friday the club announced Yems, who had been in his second stint in charge since 2019, had left the club by mutual consent.

A statement on the club's website said: "Crawley Town Football Club announced on Friday that it has mutually agreed to part ways with John Yems, effective immediately. The club will immediately begin a global search for its next manager."

According to local media in Crawley, two 'unbelievable candidates’ are on the radar of the new owners as they look to build the club's profile. Last month saw cryptocurrency investors WAGMI United LLC complete their takeover with bold plans for a side in only its 11th campaign in the Football League. Preston Johnson, co-chairman of the club, said: "We’re looking forward to the next era of Crawley Town Football Club.

“We have an opportunity to build on more than 125 years of rich history and take this club to the next level. We’re eager to partner with our players and supporters as we build a team and community that Red Devils fans can continue to be proud of — both on and off the pitch.”

The owners outlined their change of approach, adding: "Crawley Town Football Club is a club with more than 125 years of rich history that we revere and respect. However, a conventional approach to ownership hasn't worked, and the club is losing hundreds of thousands of pounds while its fans suffer through year after year of uninspiring results on the pitch. We think the club can do better and our fans deserve better. Sports are supposed to be fun and bring communities together.

"At Crawley Town, we're going to shake up the status quo, try out some new ideas, and build a worldwide community of fans new and old that can be excited to cheer on the Red Devils together — stretching from West Sussex to anywhere in the world with an internet connection."

Following Yems' suspension Crawley have seen assistant manager Lewis Young, brother of Aston Villa star Ashley, take charge of the team. He has so far seen the side lose all three outings but they will attempt to end the season on a high when they travel to already-relegated Oldham Athletic on the final day of the campaign. A win would guarantee them a top-half finish.
