Giants' end successful homestand with loss to Rockies

SAN FRANCISCO _ D.J. LaMahieu hit a two-run home run off Sam Dyson in the ninth inning Thursday as the Giants ended a successful homestand on a down note with a 9-8 loss to the Colorado Rockies at AT&T Park.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak before a crowd of 37,529 and denied the Giants a chance at their first 8-2 homestand since 2012.

The Giants went into the ninth inning leading 8-7 on a two-run double by Alen Hanson in the eighth, but Dyson surrendered a single to Chris Ianetta leading off the inning, and LaMahieu's two-run home run to left with one out gave the Rockies the lead.

Wade Davis worked a scoreless ninth to get the save for the Rockies.

Trailing 7-6, Joe Panik hit a one-out single and after Gorkys Hernandez walked and pinch hitter Buster Posey lifted a bloop single to left to load the bases. Hanson then doubled into the right field corner off Adam Ottavino (4-1) before a crowd of 37,529.

The Giants got an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to get within 7-6, with Hanson reaching on an error by Arenado at third and coming in to score on Andrew McCutchen's line double into the left field corner.

Blach had worked a pair of quick 1-2-3 innings before the Rockies' LaMahieu drove in a pair of runs with a single in the in the top of the seventh.

Pinch-hitters Ianetta (single) and Noel Cuevas (double) were the first two hitters of the inning, and LaMahieu drove in both with a well-placed ground ball single past second base. Blach got Charlie Blackmon on a soft liner to short, with Pierce Johnson coming in to face Arenado. Johnson got Arenado on a pop up to second and Carlos Gonzalez on a fly to left to end the inning.

Trailing by three runs going in to the bottom of the fourth, the Giants tied the game at 5 and got starter Chris Stratton off the hook in the process.

McCutchen started the inning by drawing a walk off Gray, and after Brandon Crawford flied to right, Pablo Sandoval singled and Nick Hundley walked to load the bases. Panik delivered an opposite field double to left to drive in two runs, and Gorkys Hernandez singled past shortstop Trevor Story to tie the game.

The Giants lost an opportunity to score another run when Gray threw an errant pickoff to first with Panik on third. The ball, however, struck first base umpire Jim Reynolds and was quickly retrieved by first baseman Ian Desmond.

Panik and Hernandez were stranded when pinch hitter Hunter Pence struck out looking and Hanson went down swinging.

The Rockies scored four times against Stratton in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. The big blow was a two-run triple to right center by Desmond, with LaMahieu driving in Desmond with a single.
