Crashes on M4 as rain causes poor driving conditions

There were delays on both sides of the M4 after two cars crashed within the space of 10 minutes.

The first crash happened just after 10am on Sunday, August 11. A female driver was on the westbound carriageway at junction 35 when her vehicle started aquaplaning. No other vehicles were involved and nobody was injured.

There was a lot of surface water on the road after heavy downpours throughout the early morning.

Ten minutes later, at 10:14am, a second crash happened, this time on the eastbound carraigeway.

A Mercedes crashed into the central reservation between junction 35, Pencoed, and junction 36, Bridgend.

Police were briefly in attendance to clear the scene, and the Merecedes was cleared off the road and onto the hard shoulder. The outside lane was closed while the central reservation was made safe.

A police spokesman confirmed no other vehicles were involved and there were no injuries.

Traffic remains slow in the area due to the closed lane and the poor driving conditions.
