A woman has died after a crash on the Snowy Mountains Highway near Cooma.
The crash took place just to the west of Cooma about 4.30pm on Friday afternoon.
The Snowy Mountain Highway remains closed in both directions. Transport NSW has advised motorists to delay their travel as there are no suitable diversions.
The woman was a passenger of a black Commodore that was traveling south with a dog trailer in tow. The Commodore collided with a Kenworth T950 Tipper truck that was traveling north.
After the collision the Commodore was pushed into a gully. The front female passenger died at the scene.
The driver of the Commodore, a 67-year old woman, was briefly trapped by the wreckage.
She was airlifted to Canberra Hospital after NSW State Emergency Service and Fire and Rescue NSW released her from the vehicle.
The truck driver, a 23-year-old man, was taken to Cooma Hospital for mandatory testing. He was not injured in the incident.
Lake Illawarra Crash Investigation Unit has established a crime scene to determine the cause and circumstances of the crash.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
