Crash involving lorry and car closes part of East Lancashire Road

A crash on the East Lancs involving a lorry and a car sparked major tailbacks this morning.

The accident happened around 6.40am on the A580 East Lancashire Road at Haydock Lane say travel monitors INRIX.

Police warned drivers that the crash was leading to traffic disruption.

Merseyside Police have confiirmed the smash involved a lorry and a car. The car driver was treated at the scene.

A spokesman said: "Emergency services were called to an RTC on Haydock Lane at around 6.35am where it was reported that a lorry was in collision with a car.

"The driver of the car, a 55-year-old female, is being checked over by paramedics but not thought to have sustained any serious injuries.

The crash partially blocked the road and prevented motorists accessing the turn off for Haydock Industrial Park.

The road has now reopened.

Elsewhere the M56 was closed after a crash at Junction 12 Liverpool Airport / Runcorn / Widnes.

Highways England said traffic officer were sent to the scene of the crash which happened around 8.30am.

The motorway was closed eastbound and two vehicles were involved confirmed travel monitors INRIX.

The closures have now been lifted although tailbacks remain.
