EMERGENCY services were called to a serious car crash on the M1 Pacific Motorway on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred about 6.15am, when a car lost control and flipped, leaving the driver trapped inside.
Police were told a Toyota Hi-Ace van left the roadway and crashed after it and a Kenworth B-double prime mover were both headed north and the truck tried to change lanes.
The car tried to avoid the truck, leaving the roadway.
Paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were called to the scene.
Police said a 36-year-old woman, the Toyota's driver, was treated by paramedics before she was flown to the John Hunter Hospital.

She underwent surgery for head and arm injuries.
The male truck driver, 34, was uninjured.
The motorway was closed in a northbound direction approaching Mandalong Road for more than an hour. It reopened to traffic just before 8am but there is heavy traffic and motorists should expect significant delays.
Drivers are asked to exercise caution, reduce speed and avoid the area if possible.
