Crash causes long delays on A4 Brislington Hill

One lane has been closed on a vital route leading out of the city this evening following a crash.

Firefighters and police were called to the incident on Brislington Hill near to the Callington Road junction, at around 6:50pm on Wednesday (September 4).

According to initial reports there was thought to be a car on fire.

A lane was closed to allow emergency services, including firefighters from Temple and Avonmouth, to deal with the incident.

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 18:50 to reports of a suspected car fire on Brislington Hill.

"One crew from Temple and Avonmouth attended.

"Upon arrival they found no fire was involved. They used a high pressured hose reel to slick off the road of any oil spillage."

The council's traffic service, Travelwest tweeted: "Incident at the Brislington Hill Road/Callington Road junction.

"The ahead lane is currently blocked with emergnecy vehicles. Expect delays."
