Crash between car and tram in Droylsden - the third incident on the same stretch in a week

Police were called after a crash involving a car and a tram in Droylsden.

It was the third incident in the past few days on same the stretch on Droylsden Road.

Pictures from the scene show a damaged vehicle and a tram.

An ambulance was also at the scene following the collision, at about 4.30pm.

The Metrolink service was partially suspended on the Ashton-under-Lyne line due to the incident.

Trams are now running again but there are delays.

On Wednesday, a 10-year-old boy who was riding his bike was left fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a tram, on Droylsden Road in Audenshaw.

Police were also called to Droylsden Road yesterday following a crash between a car and a tram.

"Due to a road traffic collision, the Ashton-under-Lyne line is currently part suspended. Services will run between Piccadilly and Etihad Campus," Metrolink said.

Police and an ambulance attended the scene (KBP)

"Bus Tickets and passes are being accepted on 216 & 217 bus services.

"Please check back for updates."

Later Metrolink said: "Services are now running through, however they are subject to delays due to heavy road traffic. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused."

The collision is also affecting bus services.

Stagecoach tweeted: "216 Srv Due to an incident between a car and Tram on Manchester Rd services heading inbound diverting via Ashton Hill Lane/Fairfield Rd and Market Street this is leading to longer delays to services."
