'Crammed' wedding reception shut down by police who also close restaurant

Authorities in Wales shut down a restaurant after "a large number of people" were found crammed inside during a wedding reception.

Officers from South Wales Police were called to Adelina's Bar and Kitchen on Thursday night where they made the discovery.

When they arrived they found "a large number of people" at the event, reports WalesOnline.

The function was shut down by officers and everyone in attendance was forced to leave.

The local council issued owners of the restaurant with an immediate closure notice for failing to put measures in place to protect customers.

It now has 14 days to put in place a series of measures to enable two-metre social distancing.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police responded to a report of a gathering at the Adelina’s Bar and Kitchen, Mumbles Road, Swansea, at approximately 7.10pm on Thursday, September 24.

"Upon arrival officers found large number of people in attendance at a private function.

"The function was shut down and all attendees ordered to leave.

"Further enforcement action by South Wales Police and Swansea Council is currently being considered."

Towns and cities in north-west England, West Yorkshire and Wales will be the latest to face new restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus, it has been reported.

Leeds in West Yorkshire, Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, and Wigan, Stockport and Blackpool in Lancashire will have local lockdowns enforced from Saturday.

Wales's two largest cities, Cardiff and Swansea, will follow suit the following day.

London has also been highlighted as an area of concern, and Teesside as an area of enhanced support by the Department of Health and Social Care.
