Craignish Country Club owner's alleged murder may be linked to Hervey Bay ram raid, police say

Ram raid linked to alleged murder

Queensland police believe those accused of murdering a Fraser Coast country club owner were involved in a ram raid in the hours leading up to the shooting.

Gregory Harding, 64, was found dead at his home at the Craignish Country Club near Hervey Bay early on August 16.

Police have confirmed that he was shot a close range.

Investigators allege that a dark-coloured Isuzu D-MAX was stolen from Maroochydore, on the Sunshine Coast, on August 13.

The people in the vehicle allegedly committed numerous offences in Hervey Bay, including a ram raid of the Stockland Shopping Centre.

In the hours after the ram raid on August 15, the vehicle travelled to the Craignish Country Club where it is alleged Mr Harding was murdered.

The vehicle was later found burnt out in Maryborough.

"We haven't ruled out it being a robbery gone wrong," Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford said.

"I can reveal we believe more than two people are involved in the murder and we are appealing for members of the Fraser Coast or Logan area to come forward with any information."

Two Loganlea men were apprehended in Coomera on Saturday and their case was briefly mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning and adjourned until September 20.

Joshua Pope, 30, and Gregory Prior, 25, have each been charged with murder and were remanded in custody.

Detectives from the Homicide Investigation Unit and Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch have been investigating the death.
