Craig Revel Horwood says Catherine Tyldesley's Strictly exit was right decision

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has hit back at online trolls amid "controversy" surrounding Catherine Tyldesley's exit from the show this weekend.

The Coronation Street star was left devastated as she and dance partner Johannes Radebe lost the dance-off against Mike Bushell and Katya Jones.

Craig saved Mike over Catherine, while co-judges Motsi Mabuse and Bruno Tonioli saved Catherine - only for Head Judge Shirley Ballas to make the overall decision and send her home.

Strictly viewers blasted the judges and the decision, with many taking to Twitter to hit out at the show following Catherine's exit.

Mike himself confessed on Monday that he'd received online abuse and trolling because he was saved over Catherine.

Speaking on This Morning on Monday, Craig hit out at those who targeted Mike online.

He also suggested it was the right decision to send Catherine home over Mike, not regretting his dance-off vote.

He told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: "They are [all so good] and the ones who weren’t so good have sort have gone really, and now it's quite even stevens.

"It really is up to the audience to start voting and deciding who they don’t want in that bottom two."

On backlash over Catherine's exit: "This is the problem with Catherine leaving and what seems to be a great controversy... and it’s not.

"I don’t see it that way at all, in my opinion Mike was better, just on the night.

"If she had been dancing, I’ve got to be honest, the rumba against him, then she would have nailed it and gone straight through.”

On trolling after the result, he added: "That’s crazy… there’s a lot of things said on social media that is absolutely disgusting… when you write something on Twitter you are self-publishing, therefore you have to be responsible for whatever you say and take the consequences.

"That is trolling. It is terrible. He is in the competition, in my eyes his tango was better on the night. [But] I’m not saying he’s the better dancer...”

This Morning airs weekdays and Sundays at 10:30am on ITV.
