Craig Revel Horwood gives his predictions for Strictly's three finalists

Legendary Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has made his predictions of which celebs will make it to this year's Top 3 Final!

But who didn't make the cut? The Aussie-Brit, who has featured as the token 'mean judge' on the iconic dancing panel since he joined for its inception in 2004, is often being subject to jeering and booing from the live studio audience.

Today, however, he showed off his hidden festive side as he joined ITV's Lorraine Kelly for a jolly catch-up about this year's show so far.

The 56-year-old dancer, choreographer and theatre director laughed with the Glaswegian host, expressing his surprise that BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker is still in the show.

"Amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing Dan," he said. "I love him, he is great and I love someone that tries. He represents a lot of the men in this country. Now, if that inspires people to get up and want to dance, great!

"You've got to be in it to win it."

Saturday's quarter-final will see Dan and the remaining four celebs, AJ Odudu, John Whaite, Rhys Stephenson and Rose Ayling-Ellis, battle it out for a spot in next week's semis.

After that, only three will remain with a chance of bagging the glorious Glitterball trophy.

Craig, who missed two weeks of Strictly this year after testing positive for Covid, also describe contestant AJ as "fabulous".

He said: "I mean this girl has never danced before in her life! I think, Lorraine, this year it's going to be very much down to the audience at home, and I'm sort of pleased about that because I personally would not like to have to make a decision with the final three.

Craig then pointed towards photos of AJ, John and Rose, explaining, "My predictions for the final three would probably be these guys here.

"I don't know! I bet it could go any way. I mean, Dan is a housewife's favourite - that could happen! I would not be upset if that was to happen, but they are my predictions."

Saturday's quarter-final will see GBBO's John and his partner Johannes Radebe perform the Salsa to Sister Sledge's 'We Are Family', while CBBC presenter Rhys will dance an Argentine Tango to In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins alongside his partner Nancy Xu.

EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis and her partner Giovanni Pernice are set to perform an American Smooth to This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole, whilst Dan Walker will dance a Tango with his partner Nadiya Bychkova to Santa Maria by Gotan Project.

And it seems that a battle of the Salsa's might be on the cards this weekend, as TV presenter AJ Odudu and her partner Kai Widdrington will also be performing one to Rhythm Is Gonna Get You/Get On Your Feet by Gloria Estefan.

Speaking about actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, who also happens to be the first deaf person to compete in the series, panto fanatic Craig revealed: "I love the fact that she brings herself to the audience, and she has allowed the audience into her world. I think that is so important."

He then described John and Johannes' Strictly performances as "amazing".

"You sort-of can't take your eyes off them as a couple! It's interesting isn't it, I think they work really well as a couple and sometimes I just simply watch the celebrity, because you know the pro dancer is going to be fantastic and I've just got my eye on the celebrity, but with these guys, I really, absolutely watch them as a team together.

"They're just a sensation!"

Despite making his honest yet controversial predictions, the author and conductor, claims it is more difficult than ever to predict this year's finalists.

"You know what I'm like, I'm very opinionated. I say, 'I want that person to win because they're amazing!', but they're all amazing and I would not like to be a celebrity in this year's Strictly."

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday at 7.05pm.
