Craig Moore delivers uncompromising Rangers transfer verdict as he blasts 'squad fillers' approach

Frustrated Craig Moore reckons Rangers refusing to make a marquee signing has impact on their early season form.

Despite sitting top of the Premiership and reaching the Premier Sports Cup semi-final, Steven Gerrard's men have been criticised for their performances.

Having enjoyed an unbeaten league campaign and title victory last term, Moore reckons that a big-name player should have been added to the team.

With the likes of John Lundstram and Fashion Sakala added early in the window, the former Ibrox skipper believes that could be a misstep by the club.

The Australian reckons his former side should have made a big move in the summer to inspire the side, but are left to rely on last season's stand-outs.

He told the Go Radio Football Show: "I just feel that the way Rangers plan; and Steven Gerrard touched on it at the start of the season, that he may need to change things because teams know exactly what they are going to do.

"For me their attacking players don't attack anywhere near enough.

"They could be higher and wider, and stretch back fours, and the full-backs can potentially go underneath that forward run from inside.

'When you make that positive run from inside it drags another defender inside. Then all of a sudden, whether it's (Alfredo) Morelos, (Kemar) Roofe or Sakala they are one vs one.

"Rangers were direct last season with that long ball, and you seen that last night when (Scott) Wright gets in. You need to be able to mix it up more than Rangers are at the moment.

"It's the Liverpool way, but no disrespect to Rangers, but they can't afford the same players.

"When you are champions, you need to be able to strengthen. I have been in that position where you have won a league title and then all of a sudden an unbelievable signing walks through the door.

'Rangers haven't done that.

"In my opinion they have gone for squad fillers."
