Craig Lynch funeral details announced after Irish athlete is tragically killed in Co Meath car crash

The funeral details for a top Irish athlete who tragically died in a car crash have been announced.

Cavan man Craig Lynch, 29, will be laid to rest at St Patrick's Church, Shercock at 12pm on Wednesday.

The sprinter will repose at his residence between 12pm and 8pm on Tuesday.

The popular teacher will be removed on Wednesday morning to the church - with a burial taking place at the adjoining cemetery after the Mass.

A post on RIP.ie said: "Reposing at his residence on Tuesday from 12 noon until 8pm.

"Removal on Wednesday morning to arrive at St Patrick's Church, Shercock, for Funeral Mass at 12 noon.

"Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. House private on Wednesday morning, please."

Tributes have continued to pour in for the the dad-of-one whose car he was driving struck a wall on the R163 between Kells and Oristown 1.40am on Sunday.

Mr Lynch, who had been engaged to fiance Sarah, represented Ireland in the 400m event at the 2016 European Championships.

He was also part of the Ireland team that ran 2015 World Relay Championships, as well as winning the national indoor 60m title in 2016.

His former college paid tribute to him on Tuesday morning, by saying: "We deeply regret the death of athlete, teacher and DCU alumnus Craig Lynch.

"Our thoughts are with his parents Patsy and Ann, his daughter Sarah, his fiancee Amy, his siblings, family and many friends. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis."

The girls school where he worked, Eureka Secondary School poignantly posted: "It is with deep sadness that we announce the untimely death of our teacher, colleague and friend, Mr. Craig Lynch. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
