Former Hearts and Scotland manager Craig Levein was a tough tackling defender in his heyday.
But the pundit reckons we're not far off centre-backs landing themselves in COURT over tackles such as Ryan Porteous' red card offence against Rangers.
The talking point of the weekend's Premiership action came in the 30th minute at Ibrox when the Hibs stopper lunged in on Joe Aribo and earned himself an early shower after 30 minutes with his side 1-0 up.
Whistler Nick Walsh's call turned the game as Steven Gerrard's men battered their Edinburgh opponents for the remainder of the match with Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos on target in the second half to pinch a 2-1 victory.
Hibs will appeal the decision but Porteous has landed himself in disciplinary trouble before with Gerrard calling him out for a previous incident involving Lassana Coulibaly in 2018 while he was also dismissed against Gers the following year for a challenge on Borna Barisic.
Speaking to BBC Sportsound, Levein reckons one day such incidents won't be dealt with by three-man SFA panels, but by a judge.
He said: "This is interesting for me because I believe when we played, Kevin (Harper) and John (Collins), there were some really tough tackles.
"It was just accepted and you were on your guard all the time because there was always a chance somebody, as we said at the time, was going to try and 'do you'.
"You were actually more alert back then than I think players are nowadays about this sort of thing.

"I think that down the line, the next really horrific tackle where some player gets seriously injured, I think this could go to court.
"That's where I think this might head.
"If somebody makes a reckless challenge on another player, I think it could go beyond football.
"That's something we have to be very careful of.
"I think he (Porteous) just needs to have a look at the way he plays the game in that particular aspect of his football.
"He's a good player, he's got decent pace, he doesn't need to go to ground. I think he's got the tools to be a really good player but he needs to eradicate this from his game."
