Craig Levein and Austin MacPhee set to leave Hearts as departure date confirmed

Hearts pair Craig Levein and Austin MacPhee are set to leave the Edinburgh club at the end of the month.

Levein was initially brought in as director of football in 2014 as owner Ann Budge took the reins.

He then presided over the first team as manager following Ian Cathro's sacking before his current remit of sharing sporting director duties with MacPhee, who was initially appointed as Cathro's assistant.

MacPhee also took charge of the club on an interim basis before the appointment of Daniel Stendel in December.

But the Edinburgh Evening News report that both of their contracts are set to run out on May 31 - and won't be renewed.

Levein oversaw Hearts ' journey back to the Scottish Premiership under Robbie Neilson in his first season as a director.

But since then his appointment of Cathro and subsequent spell as boss when the young manager was sacked have been largely unsuccessful.

That culminated in the 55-year-old being relieved of his managerial duties on Halloween with Hearts sitting joint-bottom of the league.

The Jambos never recovered and are now set to be relegated when the top flight is called.

Levein previously managed Hearts between 2000 and 2004 and also spent the vast majority of his playing career in Gorgie.
