Craig Halkett joins Hearts as Livingston defender agrees three-year deal

Hearts have secured the signing of Livingston skipper Craig Halkett on a pre-contract.

The Livi skipper has penned a three-year deal at Tynecastle and will join Craig Levein's side in the summer when his contract expires.

The former Rangers graduate has impressed at the Tony Macaroni Arena and a host of clubs were keeping tabs on his development but he's plumped on the move to the Premiership side.

Livingston have been the shock troops in the top-flight after consecutive promotions but face a break-up of a side which has delivered success.

Declan Gallagher is wanted by Motherwell but key midfielder Scott Pittman signed a new deal after interest from Aberdeen but could still be a target for the Dons.

But 23-year-old Halkett has decided on the switch to Hearts and will join the likes of Christophe Berra and John Souttar in the Jambos backline.

Levein couldn't hide his joy after securing the stopper ahead of next season and is backing him to make a major impact.

He told Hearts' official website: “I’m delighted that Craig has committed to signing for Hearts.

“He’s a talented player and, at 23-years-old, is at an age where he can continue to develop and progress.

“This club is the right place for him to do so and I look forward to welcoming him in the summer.”
