Craig Gordon reveals Qatar 2022 mission that hints he's ready for more years at Hearts

Hearts keeper Craig Gordon has set his sights on reaching Qatar 2022 with Scotland.

The veteran shot-stopper was part of Steve Clarke's squad at Euro 2020 but did not appear in any of the three group matches.

But even at 38 he's undeterred and wants to do his bit in leading the country to next year's World Cup.

Scotland face a tough task escaping from Group F having drawn two of their opening three matches while still facing trips to Denmark and Austria.

Gordon, whose focus on the tournament suggests he has no plans to call it quits at Hearts even beyond this season, acknowledges it'll be a "really tough fight" to get there.

“Hopefully we can use that as an experience and try and qualify for the next tournament," he told the Edinburgh Evening News.

"Obviously we have a couple of hard teams, Austria and Denmark, that went quite far and had some great performances so we know it is going to be a real tough fight if we are going to qualify for Qatar.”

Reflecting on Euro 2020, the Jambos captain admitted the Scots didn't take their opportunities at key moments.

“It was great. A great set-up," he said.

"Everything we had, the organisation, facilities we had, the whole trip. We had a great camp.

"A little bit disappointing in a couple of the results. We just never managed to take the lead, get that first goal which would have been so crucial.

"We created chances in all the games and we were never out of them. We were right there but didn’t quite manage to have enough on those occasions.”
