Craig Gordon reckons Hearts' focus is up the way as they target Celtic and Rangers in Premiership title race

A dream season for club and country is still very much on for Craig Gordon.

The Hearts and Scotland No 1 has been in fabulous form as the veteran stopper shows no sign of slowing down.

In fact, the 38-year-old hopes the Jambos start speeding up the table soon as he admits they are still targeting Celtic and Rangers ahead of them.

Sitting third in the Premiership standings after an electric start to the season under Robbie Neilson, the Tynecastle club still harbour hopes of splitting the Old Firm and Champions League dreams.

It was a feat Gordon achieved in 2006 - and one still very much on this time out with the Jam Tarts two points behind the Hoops and six back from the Gers.

"It’s going well," he told Sky Sports.

"Hearts are going well at the moment and it was a great result for us at the weekend to give ourselves a bit of breathing space in third place.

"We’re still looking upwards to see if we can cling onto the Old Firm and continue to progress our club, making sure that we’re trying to catch them.

"It’s been a great start for us, but we need to keep going, keep pushing and maintain that for as long as we can."

Can Scotland qualifying for Qatar 2022 in tandem with Hearts sealing a top-two spot?

"Yeah that would be perfect!" Gordon laughed.

"We’ll give it our best shot and see what happens."

Scotland travel for Moldova on Friday evening for a crucial World Cup qualifying match as Steve Clarke's men look to secure second spot in Group F and that all-important play-off spot.
