Craig Dawson's first words as a West Ham player after completing season-long loan switch

New West Ham defender Craig Dawson has said he hopes he can share his top flight experience with his new teammates after joining on a season-long loan from Watford.

The 30-year-old has become the Hammers’ second defensive recruit of the transfer window and has the option to make the loan switch permanent at the end of the campaign.

The defender has made a swift return to the Premier League having been relegated with Watford last season but is not expected to be a regular in the first team in east London straight away.

Football.london understands that Dawson will be a the fourth-choice centre back upon his arrival, behind Angelo Ogbonna, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena in the pecking order.

Speaking of his arrival in east London, Dawson - who could be in line for a debut against Spurs on Sunday, said: ““I’m delighted to be here and really looking forward to being back in the Premier League and working with the manager and group of lads.

“I’m really excited and looking ahead to the game at the weekend.

“I can’t wait to get started and share my experience. We’ve got a lot of experienced lads here anyway and to be joining this group of players is an exciting prospect, so I can’t wait.

“It’s a talented group and I can add competition to that back line, so hopefully I can slot straight in with the lads and help them improve their game as well.

“West Ham is obviously a massive club and London Stadium is a great home stadium and hopefully the fans are back soon cheering us on.”

Dawson’s arrival is the second defender Moyes has recruited this summer after Vladimir Coufal, who joined West Ham for £6million before the international transfer deadline and made his debut at right wing back in the 3-0 victory over Leicester City prior to the international break.

West Ham are still in talks with Brentford’s Said Benrahama after a transfer fee was agreed between the two clubs. Football.london understands that some issues have arisen since the move was agreed but the club is still hopeful of securing a deal.

Moyes would also like to sign Bournemouth striker Josh King before the EFL deadline passes on Friday and the Hammers have already had a bid of £13million knocked back for the frontman.
