Craig Bryson set for early Aberdeen departure as luckless midfielder looks for clean slate

Craig Bryson is on the verge of quitting Aberdeen.

The experienced midfielder is in talks over the remaining nine months of his Pittodrie contract.

The luckless 33-year-old moved to the Dons last summer but a bad run of injuries has meant that it just hasn’t worked out for him under Derek McInnes.

His departure is likely to be finalised over the coming days.

Bryson arrived at the Dons after ankle surgery and then had various issues throughout the season before the season was ended by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The former Scotland cap then came back this season and started against Rangers but then he had to self-isolate after the squad’s Coronavirus outbreak and before the international break he had a minor thigh issue.

Bryson has struggled to settle in the Granite City with his injuries and due to the fact that his wife and child have also remained in the central belt.

The former Derby County and Kilmarnock star is now hoping a fresh start will get his career back up and running again.

Aberdeen boss McInnes has already brought in Ross McCrorie from Rangers to fill that midfield void.

McInnes also needs to balance the books after bringing in Jonny Hayes, Tommie Hoban, Ryan Edmondson and Marley Watkins in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, the Dons expect to get the go-ahead to push ahead with a test event to allow 300 fans into Saturday’s game with Kilmarnock.

Scottish Professional Football League chiefs held talks with government officials yesterday about trial supporter games and that move is expected to be rubber-stamped today.

The Dons v Killie and Ross County v Celtic are under consideration to let limited supporters this weekend.

An Aberdeen statement confirmed: “We are now expecting confirmation tomorrow that our application for a test event with 300 season ticket holders for Kilmarnock (12/9/20) has been successful.

But St Mirren’s home clash with Hibs now looks unlikely to be part of the trials with the lockdown now extended to Renfrewshire.
