Craig Bellamy questions Newcastle United's mentality and Simon Jordan blasts Rafa Benitez

Craig Bellamy has questioned Newcastle United's mentality and tactical approach in their recent slump.

Elsewhere, talkSPORT host Simon Jordan has once again taken aim at former Magpies boss Rafa Benitez.

Here is your 4am Newcastle United digest.

Bellamy's verdict

Former Newcastle United striker Craig Bellamy believes the Magpies possess the quality to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

However, the former Wales international has questioned the team's mentality and fears a number of players are not 'enjoying' their football on Tyneside.

Bellamy believes his former club have the players at their disposal to claw themselves clear of danger.

But the 41-year-old has questioned the tactical approach from Bruce's side, and believes the defensive mindset has made it difficult for the Magpies to beat teams towards the bottom of the table.

Jordan's Benitez blast

Simon Jordan has slammed Rafa Benitez and labelled the Spaniard's commitment to Newcastle as 'nonsense.'

In a rant on talkSPORT, Jordan hit out at the former Newcastle United manager telling listeners that Benitez was never in it for the club and its supporters but for himself.

Jordan criticised Benitez's use of the media to get messages across and claimed the way he criticised owner Mike Ashley has tarnished his reputation.

Betting sponsorship ban?

Boris Johnson is set to issue a ban on gambling firms sponsoring football shirts in a move that will impact Newcastle United.

That's according to the Telegraph, who report the Prime Minister looks 'increasingly likely' to enforce a ban by the autumn due to rising fears over betting addiction.

United extended their partnership with betting company Fun88 last July as part of a long-term strategy for brand growth in Asia.

It was an agreement that was first struck after a meeting with club officials in China in 2017, and one that was praised by the Magpies' managing director Lee Charnley.
